Oliver winging his way into the hearts of Americans

HOLLYWOOD, CA 2014/1/12 – “HBO is almost objectively the best sandbox you could possibly play in,” says host John Oliver. “It will be me making fun of things.”
It’s early days for Oliver’s show. There is no title, no format and no premier date. But, he’s got a show that will start in the spring on HBO. They just started work on it a few days ago. They do know the show will be on once a week on Sunday nights. And it will probably be highlights of the past week’s big news topics presented with a humorous slant like Bill Mahr or Dennis Miller.
John Oliver was a correspondent and writer from 2006 to 2013 on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He’s won three Emmys for his work as a writer. Oliver has done stand-up in New York.
Oliver’s got to host The Daily Show for two months when Stewart took time off. “As a comedian I’m almost allergic to sincerity, but he’s been amazing,” says Oliver. “It will be similar because it will be me talking about things….that was Jon’s machine.”
Oliver will star in this topical comedy series presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events.
