Alaskan welders show the challenges of working underwater on Friday, August 30th, at 10pm E/P on the Discovery Channel

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 8/30/13 – “You name it, we fix it,” says Discover Channel Alaskan Steel Men star Dennis Butts. “No matter how tough you are, Mother Nature is tougher. You make a mistake, people die.”

Dennis Butts and his wife Theresa own Quality Marine of Alaska. They’ve got some of the best welders and pipe fitters in the business. Alaskan Steel Men brings viewers to the harsh environment of Kodiak, Alaska. Go on the job with extreme metal welders who have some of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

Dennis Butts is the boss. Scottie is a perfectionist who can weld anything. Cooper is a former U.S. Marine in Alaska seeking fortune. Dean wants to be a welder but is prone to lighting himself on fire. Jameson is a greenhorn who can’t stay out of trouble. Duke is a diver. Pipe fitter George likes to be six steps ahead of everyone else.

They weld underwater in icy cold seas to stop massive ships and oil barges from sinking. The 3-week series takes a close look at a dangerous, cold world.
