HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 2014/6/27 – Reality TV continues to perform well for CBS. Anyone with doubts can look to last night’s premiere of the “house show” Big Brother, an elimination show that’s sort of an indoor version of CBS hit Survivor.

More on last night’s Big Brother 16 premier.

When Les Moonves took over at last-rated CBS, the question was how would he turn the network around. Around that time, ABC backed out of a deal with Mark Burnett, a former Venice beach T-shirt salesman who’d become a reality TV producer. Burnett wanted to make a reality series called Survivor. He told Moonves he’d go on the road with the CBS reps, would sell the sponsors himself. In his first meeting he sold Target. Survivor opened big and reality shows propelled CBS from last to first place.

Big Brother was the top-ranked show last night and won in key demographics according to Nielson preliminary live-plus-same-day ratings. From 9-10pm it was first in viewers (6.56m), adults 18-49 (2.3/08), adults 25-54 (2.7/08) and adults 18-34 (1.5/06). Compared to last year, it’s up +6% in viewers (from 6.18m), +10% in adults 18-49 (from 2.1) and +8% in adults 25-54 (from 2.5). CBS won Thursday in viewers (5.66m), adults 18-49 (1.5/05) and adults 25-54 (2.0/06).
