The Time Traveling Fashionista, traveling back in time to see the fashions on the Titanic

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 5/9/2011 –“My original idea was that Louise would wake up in the life of a Miss Baxter on the Titanic,” says Time Traveling Fashionista author Bianca Turetsky. The weird part was that the more research I did…there actually was a first class passenger traveling onboard the ship named Mrs Baxter.”

The Time Traveling Fashionista is about Louise Lambert, a fashion conscious seventh grader who likes vintage clothing. When Louisa tries on one of the dresses she’s transported back to the Titanic before is sank. How will Louisa get off the Titainic before it sinks? Will she make it back to her seventh grade dance? Turetsky makes the voyage on the Titanic real for the younger generation with her vivid descriptions. The way she incorporates real people in history is intriguing. The end of the book leaves it open for more time traveling fashionista adventures.

“One of the most famous female fashion designers of that time, Lady Lucy Duff Gordon, happened to be on the boat,” says Turetsky. “Lucy’s whole design practice for her label Lucille was to hand-make dresses that captured the soul of a woman. They were emotional, personalized dresses. That was exactly what I was looking to capture with Louise’s pink dress.”  There are 30 color pencil sketches of the gowns scattered throughout the book.

Turetsky got the idea for her book about five years ago after visiting a vintage shop called Fashionista Vintage and Variety,in New Haven, Connecticut. “It’s owned by these two fabulous women, Todd and Nancy, who are always there with a glass of champagne and some unsolicited fashion advice. I tried on this pink party dress that belonged to a Mrs. Baxter from Newport Rhode Island, and I couldn’t help but wonder what her life was like, what the last gala or fancy event was that she wore this to. And how in a way, her memory was being preserved through this garment.”

Turetsky researched the Titanic online and at her local library. She’s says it’s a lucky break that her friend Sebastian Silva was was an assistant director on the movie Titanic. “He had this great illustrated book that James Cameron gave to the crew which really helped me get an idea of the layout of the ship, and what it would be like to actually have been a passenger on the boat. From what I would have eaten in the first class dining room, to how I would have spent my free time, to who I would be traveling with. It was truly invaluable.”

While Turetsky was writing The Time Traveling Fashionista, a traveling Titanic exhibit tcame through New York City. “It was so much fun and also pretty heartbreaking. They gave you a ticket to board the Titanic along with the name and identity of a person who was actually on the boat. You could really pretend like you were there. They had so many great original artifacts and documents.” Turetsky got stopped by one of the guards as she was trying to furiously write everything down in a notepad. “I’m still not quite sure what law I was breaking,” says Turetsky. “I had to try and remember everything I saw and use my imagination for the rest.”

Turetsky says an unexpected perk to writing a book about vintage dresses is she now gets discounts at some of her favorite vintage and consignment shops.  “Not that I have much time to shop anymore, but it’s still so awesome. And the book has brought some amazing people into my life, like my agent and editor, who are now women I consider to be dear friends.”

Turetsky’s agent is Elisabeth Weed of Wed Literary. “A mutual friend passed along my card to Elisabeth,” says Turetsky. “I didn’t hear from her for months, so I assumed she wasn’t interested and I reluctantly began querying other agents. She called me up out of the blue one day, and asked to see the manuscript. At that point I had given up hope of ever hearing from her, so it was such a nice surprise. Apparently she had lost my card! I sent her the book, which at that point was only around 100 pages, and the rest as they say, is history.”

When not writing, Turetsky runs the New York City studio of acclaimed artist-filmmaker Julian Schnabel. She assisted on his Academy Award-nominated film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, as well as Miral, in theaters and starring Freida Pinto.

Stacy Keibler on the set, with two movies coming out

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 1/26/2011 – “Tonight is a nice, different way for girls to get together to raise money for a charity,” says star Stacy Keibler. “All my best girlfriends are coming. We all get a glass of champagne and a clutch out of it and we’re helping these kids who really need it. We’re designing clutches to raise money for my charity After-School All-Stars.”

Keibler has two films coming out later this year. Dysfunctional Friends is a dark comedy Fixing Pete is a Hallmark movie romantic comedy about how to transform a guy, with the guy being Dylan Bruno from the CBS series Numb3rs. “It’s me and Brooke Burns,” says Keibler. “She’s a journalist. I’m a supermodel. Her task is to take this guy who does sports, a total guy’s guy living like a pig, and to transform him. As she changes his wardrobe and the things he likes, she falls in love with him.”

Stacy Keibler is hosting a charity event tonight at 1154 LILL Studio to benefit the After-School All-Stars. Celebrity guests are designing clutches to wear to upcoming awards shows. The handbags will later be sold online at the 1154 LILL Studio website with the proceeds going to charity. The night’s motto is, “Design your own awards season clutch for a cause.”

Keibler says that being a cheerleader in high school and later for the Ravens prepared her for performing in front of large crowds. At the Ravens games there were 70,000 fans. Then for WWE wrestling she performing in front of millions of people across the world and in arenas with 60,000 people.

“The WWE…I did it for eight years,” says Keibler. “It’s very much theater. Everyone is playing a character. It’s great to be out there doing that, but it’s almost the opposite of what I found when I moved to L.A. Acting is very small and intimate and emotional. I was already in L.A. while I was still with WWE and trying to find my way. Then Dancing with the Stars came along which was amazing.”

“When I first moved to Hollywood it wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be,” says Keibler. “I moved her all by myself and didn’t have any friends and family out here. I was pretty lucky when I came here. I was in wrestling. I was on the cover of some magazines. I got an agent at ICM right off the bat. I was lucky to get someone who really cared about me and wanted to help me grow. After Dancing with the Stars they realized that the ratings were the highest in the fifteen minutes I was in the show no matter where they placed me.” Keibler signed a 3-year deal with ABC Disney.

It was Keibler’s publicist who contacted Dancing with the Stars to suggest Keibler, who was already known for her 42” legs. On Dancing with the Stars, Keibler’s samba would earn a perfect score from the judges.

Keibler is on the board of a number of charities, including After-School All-Stars.

“After-School All-Stars has comprehensive school programs for about 80,000 kids,” says Keibler. “We have about 450 schools in thirteen different cities. The hours after school from three to six are the hours where kids in pretty bad neighborhoods would be getting involved in crime and gangs and drugs. This is an alternative program with arts and fitness and everything. A lot of these schools are getting rid of music and gym and all these programs. This is a way for kids to enrich their lives. I remember how much I loved those programs as a child.”
