Hollywood CA, Gosh!TV 2011/11/25  - Prep & Landing first debuted in 2009 as ABC TV’s first animated television special produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

In 2010 the special won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, an Annie Award for Best Animated Television Production and a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Miniseries, Movie or a Special.

From Disney, Prep & Landing is a new take on how Santa gets presents delivered. This animated film shows the elves using high tech gadgets to get homes ready for Santa’s visit.

An elf named Wayne, voiced by Dave Foley, who’s worked for Santa for 227 years, doesn’t get an expected promotion and instead is partnered with a rookie elf named Lanny, voiced by Derek Richardson, to carry out a special Christmas eve mission.

While going to carry out their mission Wayne and Lanny must use their ingenuity to overcome unexpected challenges. Can they save Christmas for all children?

The story shows kids that working together and being responsible can be fun and rewarding. Adults will enjoy the movie as well. The characters are memorable and the story moves right along. You’ll wish the story was longer as the film is short at 22 minutes.

Quigley Down Under Blu-ray

Ton Selleck Western comes to Blu-ray *** 3 Stars

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 2011/11/10 Matthew Quigley,  played by Tom Selleck, an American sharp shooter from Wyoming is hired by Elliott Marston, played by Alen Rickman. He needs Quigley to come to Australia to kill off the dingos, wild dogs that are killing off his cattle. Soon after arriving Quigley realizes, he was actually  hired to kill the native Aborigines to get them off Marston’s land. Quigley refuses to kill other humans who’ve done nothing wrong. Marston and his men start hunting Quigley.

Cora, played by Laura San Giacomo, an American from Texas is in Australia having run from her past of accidentally suffocating her young son while trying to stay alive during an Indian raid. Quigley and Cora soon team up to help save the Aborigines.

Quigley was originally developed for Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood. John Hill started writing the script in 1974. But production didn’t begin until 1980 and unfortunately  McQueen passed away so the project was shelved. Years later Selleck agreed to star in the film and it was finally made in 1990.

The rifle Selleck used as Quigley was a custom made replica manufactured for the film by the Shiloh Rifle Manufacturing Company of Big Timber, Montana. The replica of the 1874 Sharps rifle was 13.5 pound (6 kg), single-shot, with a 34-inch (860mm) barrel.

In 2002 Selleck donated the rifle, along with six other firearms from his other films, to the National Rifle Association, as part of the NRA’s exhibit “Real Guns of Reel Heroes” at the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.

The film was shot entirely in Australia.

The gun fighting in this film was different then other western shot before. It was more violent and more action packed. Even thought it’s a blu-ray the picture is a bit grainy and the ratio is widescreen. If you’re a Seleck fan you will want it for your collection.

Cars 2 Sally, Mater and Lightning McQueen

Disney Pixar’s summer hit Cars 2 released on Blu-ray Combo Pack with Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, Movie Download and DVD *** 3 Stars

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 11/2/2011 – Sports car Lightning McQueen is off to race overseas with his best buddy tow truck  Mater to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix. Mater embarrasses Lightning and  leaves, but gets caught up in international espionage. Mater is the star of this movie as he helps save the world with British super spy Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, a rookie field spy.

The animation is fantastic. The young ones will enjoy watching the movie over and aover again.

Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios chief creative officer John Lasseter is the director of Cars 2. Today Lasseter received the 2,453rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony was in front of the El Capitan Theatre and the Disney Fountain. This is the 25th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios. Lasseter also directed Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2 and both Cars feature animated movies.

The producer is visual effects veteran Denise Ream who was the associate producer for Up. He  was the visual effects executive producer on Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. Composer Michael Giacchino, who is an Oscar winner for The Incredibles and Up, provides the score with a surf-rock-meets-spy-thriller flavor. Songs are sung by Brad Paisley, Robbie Williams, Weezer, French singer Bénabar and Japanese girl band Perfume lend their diverse musical talents to the film’s soundtrack.

The vocal cast for the characters are  Owen Wilson  as race car Lightning McQueen. Larry the Cable Guy is the voice of Mater Lightning McQueen’s best friend and the heart and soul of Radiator Springs. Bonnie Hunt is Sally the baby-blue Porsche 911 Carrera whose motor races for Lightning McQueen. Michael Caine is Finn McMissile, a top British spy who mistakes Mater for an undercover American agent with a genius disguise. Emily Mortimer is Holley Shiftwell, a rookie field spy who knows every trick in the manual. John Turturro is the voice of Francesco Bernoulli, the world-renowned Italian racing champ who is Lightning’s main rival. Other actors who lend their voice talent are Tony Shalhoub, Joe Mantegna, Peter Jacobson, Jason Isaacs, Eddie Izzard, Paul Dooley, Cheech Marin, John Ratzenberger, Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave.

Winnie the Pooh Feature Film

Winnie the Pooh is in the Hundred Acre Wood with his friends and want you and your family to join them on Blu-ray or DVD **** 4 Stars

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV)10/25/2011 – This family animated feature film brings Winnie the Pooh to a whole new generation of youngsters. This traditional animation treat is wonderful to see. The style used is reminiscent of the previous movies and A.A. Milne’s classic books. Directed by Stephen Anderson and Don Hall is the second Pooh movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios. It follows the Pooh and his friends as they set out to save Christopher Robin.

Winnie The Pooh is voiced by Jim Cummings. Who also is the voice of Tigger. The  narrator is John Cleese. Craig is the voice of Owl, Tom Kenny voices Rabbit, Travis Oates as Piglet, Bud Luckey as Eeyore, Kristen Anderson-Lopez as Kanga, Wyatt Hall the seven-year-old son of director Don Hall as Roo and Huell Howser, this was his first role as an actor,  as Backson and Jack Boulter, this was his first role as an actor, as Christopher Robin.

In HD the film is crisp and clean, but you still feel as thought it’s like the original art work.

The Blu-ray release has bonus materials in HD. Included are an overview called Winnie the Pooh and His Story Too of the Original Winnie the Pooh, two animated shorts The Ballad of Nessie and Mini Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Pooh’s Balloon. There are also tips for on how to design a Pooh-themed nursery for mom’s to be called Creating the Perfect Winnie the Pooh Nursery. There are also deleted scenes and sneak peaks.

You can also sing along with lyrics displayed on the screen. Subtitle are in English SDH, Spanish, and French.

Fox and the Hound

The story of two unlikely friends who should be enemies *** Three Stars

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 2011/8/09 – 30 years ago Disney released The Fox and the Hound, their 24^th animated film. Tod, the Fox, is orphaned but he’s got Copper, a hound who’s his best friend. As Copper grows up he finds out he’s supposed to hunt foxes. Can the two stay friends when they’re supposed to be enemies?

In 1981 the new generation of animators at Disney, Ron Clements, Glen Keane and John Musker worked on this one and went on to do many other well known Disney movies.

The animation is clean and bright. The original can be a bit deep for kids, and parents will need to be ready to talk about some sad and violent events in the original movie.

In 2006, 25 years later, they released The Fox and the Hound II.

In The Fox and the Hound II, Copper wants to join The Singin’ Strays, a group of harmonizing dogs that are in the local county fair. He all but forgets about Tod who tries to fit in.  With the encouragement of Dixie, who’s part of the The Singin’ Strays, Tod manages to sabotage an important audition. Dixie tells Copper that Tod didn’t do it to hurt him, he just wanted to be friends the way they used to be.

Both stories are about this unusual friendship.

The voice talent on The Fox and the Hound was a mix of old and new Hollywood voices. Mickey Rooney, Pearl Bailey, Pat Buttram and (in 1981) up-and-coming stars Kurt Russell and Corey Feldman.

The Fox and the Hound 2, featuring the vocal talents of Patrick Swayze, Reba McEntire, Lucas Grabeel and Trisha Yearwood.

For the first time ever both are in high-definition.

One Night in Turin, a disasterous kick for England

One Night in Turin documentary examines the heartbreaking loss of British team at the 1990 World Cup *** 3 Stars

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 6/21/2011- England came so close to winning the 1990 World Cup. Told from the perspective of All Played Out author Pete Davis with a voice-over by Gary Oldman. The emotion of each player from both teams as they take their last shots at making a goal, and their relief when they do it is all there to see. What’s missing are current interviews with the players and how what happened then affects football today.

Even though we know who wins, we can still cheer with the crowd. For Americans, who call English football soccer, this documentary by James Erskine is a fun way to learn about England’s football history. In the summer of 1990 England participated in the World Cup in Turin, Italy. They played West Germany, which was the last time Germany played as two separate countries. The English team  played phenomenally yet suffered a heartbreaking loss in double overtime. English fans were devastated.

The film is comprised of archive footage, much of it previously unseen, with some shots recreated by Lol Crawley. The recreated shots are close-ups of isolated shots to create a heightened sense of drama. A football is placed on the penalty spot then it cuts back to the archive footage where you see the real kick of a failed or scored goal.

Other incidents of the time were the poll tax riots, English hooligans and the press baiting politicians, particularly sports minister Colin Moynihan. One Night in Turin recaptures the mood of a country and an era that had pinned its hopes on victory only see them dashed.

Gnomeo and Juliet, yes, Disney gnomes do Shakespeare fine

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 5/27/2011 –It’s William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with gnomes. The little porcelain figures that decorate gardens come to life in this Disney family adventure. Gnomeo is a blue gnome and Juliet is a red gnome. Their families just can’t get along and are determined to keep the lovers apart. Can Gnomeo and Juliet bring their feud to an end or will they end up dead as the statue in the park of Shakespeare predicts?

There are plastic pink flamingos, Frogs, and lawnmower races. James McAvoy is the voice of  Gnomeo and Emily Blunt is a delight as Juliet. Gnomeo and Juliet is directed by Kelly Asbury, the director of Shrek 2. The music is by Sir Elton John. Spoiler: this story is great for children because it doesn’t have the tragic ending of the original tale. Innuendo is there, but will go over the heads of children under the age of 12. There’s no swearing.

Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, Ashley Tisdale back to High School Musical

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 5/4/2011 –“Ever since day one of the first High School Musical, I always had loads of ideas for Sharpay,” says Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure star Ashley Tisdale. “I’d say things like, ‘Obviously, this chick [Sharpay] is crazy so why don’t I wear this skirt as a top?’ And that’s exactly what we’d end up doing! I think Sharpay looks great in the new movie. She’s growing up, but she still loves pink.” Tisdale also stars in the TV series Hellcats.

Sharpay, her dog Boi, and lots of pink luggage head to the Big Apple with her parents’ blessing. Given only one month to make her mark, Sharpay has a few problems to overcome. The first is when she goes to an audition thinking it’s for her and it’s really for Boi her dog. Sharpay trys to figure out the best way to get ahead and get noticed. Can she accomplish her dream before she has to go home?

“I love Sharpay, so I was really excited to jump on board with this new movie,” says Tisdale. “You don’t get to meet great characters like Sharpay too often, so I felt like I wanted to do this for my fans. The High School Musical franchise made me successful and Sharpay made me who I am in this business, so I wanted to go back and let her have her very own end to a great story.”

This spin-off from High School Musical shows Sharpay growing up a bit. She faces challenges and makes more grown up decisions then in previous movies. Teen girls will like that a lot the fashion is fun. Sharpay grow as a character. She’s not such a spoiled brat at the end.

“Sharpay and Ashley are very different people,” says Tisdale. “Sharpay wears much more pink than I do in real life and she’s much more self-obsessed. I’m not a diva. However, Sharpay’s got a huge passion for acting and singing, and so have I.”

“I love Nicole Richie. She has a very bohemian, light casual style,” says Tisdale. “I love everything Nicole Richie wears and I think she carries herself really well. She knows what she likes and she knows what she wants.”

The Blu-ray: Vital Disc Stats is a two-disc combo set. The first is a Region Free, BD50 while the second is a standard-def copy of the movie on a DVD-9. The Incredibles, a family of superheroes, on Blu-ray

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 5/4/2011 – “The role of Bob was probably one of the more difficult things I’ve ever done,” says The Incredibles star Craig T. Nelson, the voice of Mr. Incredible. “I really empathized with him as a human being. Here’s a guy who is literally able to leap tall buildings and do all kinds of super-heroic things, but that isn’t what makes him special. It’s his value structure and his moral strength, not his mighty feats that I really responded to. He’s one of those people I’d really like to meet and get a chance to shake his hand, because he knows what counts and he has a good sense of himself and his family.”

“Craig has an authoritative voice but also a wonderful, easygoing kind of humor that really lends itself to who Mr. Incredible is,” says The Incredibles director Brad Bird. “You can definitely see his voice fitting into this big, strong, hulking body yet there is also a real vulnerability in him-enough so that you really relate to him simply as a man looking for something he has temporarily lost-and when the scene needed to be intense, he was right there.”

“I quickly discovered that Brad and his team had an extremely specific idea of what they wanted because they’d lived with this story so closely for such a long time,” says Nelson. “They perfected the script and knew this family inside and out, and every other which way. So it was up to the actors to bring to life exactly what they had in their mind’s eye.”

Bob Par, secret identity Mr. Incredible, and his wife Helen, really Elastigirl, are married and have three kids. They’ve left the superhero life and want to blend in as an ordinary family.  Bob is a bored yet reliable insurance salesman. Helen a homemaker. Bob yearns for the excitement of the old days. When a secret mission goes wrong, the whole family must pull together and come out of hiding.

With The Incredibles, writer-director Brad Bird and Pixar Animation Studios created a computer-generated world that’s rich, complex and human. Bird directed Toy Story 3, Up and Ratatouille. HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!TV) 4/29/2011 – “We’d been talking about marriage for a while, so it wasn’t a massively big surprise,” said Price William during an interview five months ago. “I took her somewhere nice in Kenya and proposed. Catherine Middleton said, “It’s was very romantic.” The romance reached it’s peak today with the royal wedding. Their long courtship was finally celebrated in their wedding of Catherine Middleton marrying Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, KG, FRS, born 21 June 1982.
