BEVERLY HILLS, CA (Gosh!TV) 2013/10/15 - “We were spellbound after hearing Todd, Glenn and Daniel’s pitch, and knew Netflix was the perfect home for this suspenseful family drama that is going to have viewers on the edge of their seats,” says Netflix Original Content VP Cindy Holland.
She’s talking about the new psychological greenlit by the streaming service, as yet untitled, to be created by Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (“KZK”), who created the FX hit Damages.
The new series will follow a group of adult siblings who are confronted with their secrets and their hurts after their black-sheep brother returns to the fold. The series will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and is scheduled to go before the cameras in 2014.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be creating an original series for Netflix, a company committed to cutting-edge storytelling in a vibrant, new space. We’re equally excited about our relationship with Sony Pictures TV, which continues to provide us with unwavering creative support. We’ve always wanted to put our spin on a family saga and examine universal themes of family in a way that has never been seen before on television. The series is a tightly wound thriller that explores the complex bonds between parents and children, brothers and sisters, and the rivalries, jealousies, and betrayals at the core of every family,” says Kessler, Zelman and Kessler.
The trio has collectively and individually received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, but are best known for Damages, the FX original series starring Glenn Close as a scheming attorney and her complicated relationship with her young associate, played by Rose Byrne. The show debuted on FX in 2007, then migrated to the DirecTV channel Audience Network for two more seasons after that. Aside from the complicated plot twists, the show was also known for attracting a wide variety of talent, including Ted Danson, William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Martin Short, Lily Tomlin and others.
